Plenty of Places To Stay Still Available For Racing Fans

Bristol, Tenn. -- In an effort to get more racing fans to the world's fastest half-mile, local hotels are dropping prices and the minimum stay required. It's something Bristol Motor Speedway had a hand in because they say costs are a concern for many guests.

Kevin Triplett with Bristol Motor Speedway tells us, "When you sell tickets in 50 states and 12 countries lodging is obviously a huge part of that."

About a dozen hotels are taking part in the rate decrease. We called several and about half of them still had rooms available for race weekend.

It's not just hotels, but condos too like the Race Day Condos across from the track. They're cutting their prices in half and they have dropped their minimum days required from four nights to three, just to get people to stay here for the March race.

At Race Lodging and All Journeys Travel, workers are staying busy.

Owner Aleeta Gent says, "We get probably 10 to 20 requests a day for hotels."

They also rent out homes too, but say they've seen a change in that business in recent years, "Last couple of years it has fallen off a little bit, due to the fact that there are hotel rooms available."

There are many lodging options still available.  Bristol Motor Speedway says they still have tickets available too.

Triplett adds, "Sales are OK, where we were last year frankly, not where we want to be."

But there is hope, in the final weeks leading up to the spring race many fans will be making last minute travel plans. Gent adds, "We will book rooms all the way up to the day before the race, and I do think we are going to see more of that this year."

Bristol Motor Speedway tells us there are about 7,000 hotel rooms in the Tri-Cities area.
